The freezer makes a whistling sound when the freezer fan is running, dosn't do it all the time, but frequently, I've noticed that the fan varies in speed you can hear it go up and down.
Is there an air flow problem or is the fan going?

You need to replace the motherboard. That is your problem. Tom ApplianceEducator.com (http://www.applianceeducator.com)

If that was me, I would not be too hasty rushing out to buy that board without testing to see if that fan motor is not working right. You should get steady 120 volts to it. And even if you get that - what is probably wrong is the shaft bearing is worn, and changes the position of the part that rotates in relation to the part of the motor that remains stationary, and is causing your strange oscillatations.

Cheap 50 and 70 CFM bath fans do this same thing for the same reason.

Your symptom occurs in units even without motherboards.

I am with 51, the fan would be what I would check first. Some of the later models change the speed of the fan, and it could be running normal. Is the temperature normal in both the freezer and refrigerator? If the fan is of the 115 volt type and bad, they are cheap and easy to replace. Sometimes you can use google to search for parts using the model number that should tell you what type of fan it is. Good luck.
