My bathtub has three seperate pieces of acrylic "sheeting"(?) on the walls. It needs to be replaced due to mold on the silicone caulking, the wall behind the plumbing fixtures is cracking at the faucets, and the silicone is pulling away from the top edge of the tub. How hard of a job is this? There are three sides of a small window involved. How would I seal the perimeter of the acrilic at the window edges? What can I expect? What should I use? Is it REALLY necessary to hire a professional? I am relatively handy..basic tools knowledge.

The plastic surround is not hard to remove, usually a utility knife and a wide putty knife will do the job. What is behind it may be another issue. But you may be able to cut out the old caulking, clean with bleach and recaulk. Just make sure everything is completely dry.

It's definitely a big job if you have rip out the walls. I would start the way Bill described and see where it takes you. I would use the same type of material and caulk around the windows.
