I've got a Concord ceiling fan. Recently the pull-switch for the fan stopped working properly. All I get is high-speed. No mid-speed or low-speed. The fan simply switches off in all positions, except high.

Hit Home Depot and picked up a new fan speed switch. With the new switch installed I get nothing at all, not even high-speed.

As a test, I reinstalled the old switch and again just get high-speed. This is an 8-wire switch.

Any suggestions as to what the problem could be? Could it be a problem with the fan motor? There is also a ballast in the fan. Could something be wrong with it?

Thanks.

The original problem was probably not the switch at all, but the fan's capacitor block.

The new problem is probably because you bought the wrong switch (there are many, many different ones) or because you wired it incorrectly.

At this point, you may want to just consider a new fan.
