We bought a new ge profile cabinet depth fridge...I kinked 2 sets of 1/4 copper lines trying supply water to the ice maker.....I want to go with plastic...do I need to purchase the GE smartconneect tubing kit....or can I go down to thehardware store and by the tubing and connections...thanks foryourhelp...

It would all depend on whether or not GE has somehow set up the connection to only accept that kit.I would very much doubt this and would expect the hardware store's ice maker kit to include what you need.
I'd take in the instructions to the fridge and anything else like the parts you have used (not tubing) to show the saleshelp what the connection is,what size fitting etc.I suspect it's 1/4 compression but in the good ole days it was often garden hose so show them exactly what it is.

Do you have a dedicated valve behind or beside the fridge? They have braided stainless lines you could use.
btw... a simple coil spring tubing bender would help if the kinks are because of that.

that valve will be 1/4" compression fitting, and copper is your best long term solution. You need to be sure to leave 3-4 coils of copper behind the fridge to allow access and prevent kinking. Also make sure that your bends are gradual, not 90* bends, but more like arcs.
