Last year l had to replace the boiler and I think it is oversized.
The original boiler was rated at 138000 BTU and the house is divided into six zones. On cold days the boiler would stay running for too long and would have to turn the thermostats down. finally it started leaking and had to replace it. My brother inlaw (an HVAC tech.) recommended a larger boiler. We ended buying a Burnham V8 rated for 239000BTU. The boiler is doing a great job heating the house. But I'm not sure if this was an overkill. The heat system is forced hot water, baseboard and divided into to six zones. The total area of the house is 7000sf and it is insulated.
Is the boiler oversized? If it is, what can I do to make it run as effecient as possible?

Thanx

7000 sq ft ... maybe the old one was a bit undersized ...

But, the only way to know for sure is to do a 'Manual J' heat loss calculation on the home.

You can do one yourself in a couple hours ...

If you wanna try, you can download heat loss software from Slant/Fin | High Efficiency Boilers, Baseboard and Radiant Heating (http://www.slantfin.com) and measure your rooms, windows, etc and input the information.

It's here:

How to get Hydronic Explorer 2 (http://www.slantfin.com/heat-loss-software-get.html)

I think the slantfin site does some kind of OS version checking via your browser and decides (incorrectly) that current OS's won't work with HE2, and displays that "available soon" box on the front page.

But it does work. Quirky as always, but works.
