I purchased a Task Force 5-Ton Electric Log Splitter last fall and have use it satisfactorily. However, the ram failed when I tried to split a piece of wood with uneven ends. Lowes will not help me find a new piece. I also called the number in the parts catalog but have had no help there. Anyone out there got any ideas how I can get a new ram apparatus?

Is the ram a hydraulic cylinder? If so, try Northern Tool.

What do you mean by failed? broke in two or just does not move? If it's stuck, you may have to bust it open and replace the piston bearings and packings (or have a hydraulic shop do it for you). If it's broken and in pieces - buy a new log splitter.
Before you do anything, check the flex coupling that connects the electric motor to the pump, make sure nothing is stripped there.

It is and I will. Thanks for the heads-up.

Actually the push rod bent. I had it welded but it then broke, probably because it wasn't welded properly. When I took it back to Lowes, they refused to send it back, help me find a new part, or give me the name of the manufacturer so I could try to find a new part myself. The part if labeled "push rod" but it is actually the piece the wood lays against as it is brought to the ram. All mechanized parts and the hydraulic parts also work fine. Just need a new push rod.
