Hey everyone...
My wife has lost her wedding ring and she has checked everywhere in the house. Its not on the floor or under anything.... Anywho.. I feel there may be a small chance the ring may have fallen down the sick drain in our kitchen or in the bathroom upstairs. In the past she has placed her rings on the kitchen counter kind of close to the sink and also on the bathroom sick top very close to the drain. If the ring did in fact fall down one of the drains, is there a good chace it is gone forever? or possibly stuck in the bottom of the pipe somewhere..someplace i could check? I want to rule this theory out but I also do not want to go messing with these pipes and screw up my plumbing. I am not a very good "handy man". Any one have any suggestions? Thanks...Todd

It could be in the trap under the sink but the only way to know is take it apart and look.Beyond that it all depends on the exact design of your plumbing and whether or not there is access to some point where it might have settled. If you have a sewer clean out you could try that but it would be pure luck that it was around it.And you could disassemble various points where elbows etc were if they could be reached but you're really getting into something by doing all that.If it isn't in a sink trap I'd consider consulting a plumber.

Not a big deal to check. The "P" trap under the sink would normally catch that kind of item.
Get a pan or pail, a pan that will fit under the piping is ideal.
Unscrew the nuts that hold the curved part of the piping together. If they are plastic, you might be able to do it by hand. Metal you'll probably need a pipe wrench or Channel-lock pliers. Dump the contents into the pan or pail. Put the trap back in and screw it back together. Depending on what you have, may need new washers, but put it back together and test first.

better hope it didnt go down the garbage disposal side, if you have a double sink and if you want to check it out, I'd STRONGLY suggest you get a plumber. DO NOT stick your hand into the disposal with out DISCONNECTING the power from the disposal - just flipping the switch isnt safe enough.
As others said, check trap first. Not complicated for even the novice DIYer. Just have a bucket to catch the water and some old car wash towels handy to wipe up the mess.

:thinker::thinker::thinker:If anyone has dropped a RING or any sort of jewellery or small object. Immediately close off water valve so no water washes it away and before you tamper with the drain pipes ""please try using a SHOP VAC"" I myself dropped a very small rhinestone hair clip in the bathroom sink I right away shut off water valves and made sure no extra water was to be poured then I used and the SHOP VAC which sucked it out within minutes. It was amazing!: Wished I would have thought about it years ago. Works like a charm..
