I just purchased a house that is 822 sq ft. I only have one counter top w/a single side sink. The house was built in 1950 and I'm someone that that needs counter space. I don't have the money to expand out what do you suggest? I am really limited on my space/arrangement of appliances. I thought about an island but if I do that I wouldn't have room for my table. Also, if I sell it in a few years someone might want a table instead of bar stools.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

One option is to use the kitchen table as a work space. Another option is to put shelves in a closet to accommodate appliances and other items on counter when not in use, thus freeing up counter space.

Additionally, if the floor plan is open to the adjacent living/family room area, perhaps furniture could be rearranged in such a way that the dining table could be moved into that area. This is what I have done at my mountain cabin. The couch serves as a divider behind which I have placed a freestanding bar on wheels. It can be used as a bar when entertaining, as a buffet, a work area, or a place to land groceries until they can be put away. And, there is extra storage in the bottom. The dining table is at the end of the room opposite from the sitting area. Weather permitting, meals can also be served outdoors on the deck. Additional storage is located on shelves in the back of the master bedroom closet where appliances are stored.

A thing for every place and a place for everything is important when space is limited. Eliminate clutter and items that are not used in order to save space.

Hi All4It_1,

Few weeks ago I visited a K&B expo and I saw some new island models with a nice feature--> instead of a bar + stools, they have a table + chairs. The table can be folded if necessary
Other smart idea is the addition in your floor cabinets of side leaves (folder model or pull out model)

Ikea has some "all in one cabinets", check their Bravad line

Some additional ideas

I'd look for a butcher block island type piece on wheels so you can move it around and stash it aside when it's not needed

Play around with the software I just posted about. I only found it today, so I'm not sure ALL the features. It may help you plan though...
