Does anyone have experience with the Simon XT GSM module (600-1048-XT)?
I'm looking to build a system with low latency between contact trip and CO notification plus regular status update to the CO even when not armed. These requirements lead me away from POTS and toward broadband or GSM. As I understand it, the typical broadband adapters essentially tie in to the POTS line from the alarm panel and thus would be subject to the same dial/negotiate latency as POTS. So that leaves me with GSM. I have the impression the 600-1048-XT module is "native" in that it is not a POTS->GSM adapter and thus would have the low latency I'm looking for.
Can anyone confirm or refute this? Also, does anyone know if the 600-1048-XT requires a separate cellular contract or if the monitoring CO handles that?
Thanks in advance!

If by "latency" you mean lag time between zone trip and actual dialing, then you are correct. There is no delay in sending the signal with the XT GSM module. Does not require a phone line...
There is, however, a 3rd party involved who will most likely charge a fee for Alarm.Com services. This is typically the company that installs your system.

Right, I'm looking for low delay between trip and the monitoring co being notified. There seems to be very little info available on the XT GSM module. I can't tell if it takes a SIM card or if you pay for cellular service thru your monitoring co, for example. I plan to install the system myself and would like to get the details straight before I make any purchases.

Unfortunately, Alarm.Com does not offer their services to DIYers...You must use an Alarm.Com authorized dealer.
The SIM card is built into the unit. Cingular/AT&T is the coverage provider on the newer GSM units.

Thanks for the info. It looks like safemart.com provides alarm.com services to do-it-yourselfers, rebranded as LiveWatch. Do you know if the cellular subscription with ATT/Cingular is normally included as part of your alarm.com subscription fee?

Not sure what their pricing structure is, but...the only way for the radio to communicate is via the ATT network (the GSM module anyway). So I don't see any way it couldn't be included...
