Hello, my wife and I bought a house with a fireplace and I have never had one before. I wanted to light a fire tonight so I attempted to open the flue. Unfortuneately, the damper rod, when turned using the knob on the face of the fireplace, would just spin and spin (in both directions), therefore the vent/flue would not open... What should I do or reconnect to get this operational again? I was in the fireplace to get a closer look and the rod just spins, and doesnt open anything??? Thanks!
