I have an inexpensive Husky compressor from Home Depot, about 3 years old. When it turns on it pumps normally for about 15 seconds, then the motor slows down dramatically and strains to turn the pump. If the exit pipe on the compressor is removed, it pumps continuosly, with good output. When reconnected to the tank, it builds pressure to 20 psi then begins slowing down dramatically until the motor overheats. The check valve in the top of the tank appears to operate properly. Is there a possible problem with the valves in the head of the compressor?

Thanks--John

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like the inlet to the tank where you removed the discharge pipe is clogged up, probably with rust.
