We have had some issues w/our water heater for some time and my husband just replaced the thermocouple and the pilot was working for about a day! It has since gotten colder and when our furnace runs (another post) and I am relighting the pilot I can see the flame getting "sucked" back in. I believe this is what is happening to our water heater.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I think I remember that post and I asked if there was an adjustment on the pilot light. If there is no adjustment, I would check for leaks in the gas line.

Does it seem as if you are losing gas pressure or there is some kind of draft causing this?

I'm thinking there is an adjustment to the pilot as mentioned, the gas valve is faulty, you have gas line pressure problems of some sort further back (ie a leak, gas company supply issues, etc.). If this is a drafting problem you need to figure out why the furnace is inducing this draft.

Thank you. We called the gas company and it turns out the city accidentally closed part of the valve and we had really low pressure so we are good to go.
