It it easier to use a sledgehammer? Or some sort of cutting tool? I don't want to go the refinishing route again, so I'm looking for the least labor-intensive way to tear it out.

Im guessing its an old cast iron tub. A sledge.
Remove all the surrounding walls and disconnect the plumbing first. Cover the tub with an old blanket or something and whack away at it. Wear eye protection and make sure you cover anything in the bathroom that you want to salvage.

I estimate this tub is from the 60's or 70's - harvest gold. it's a shallower tub only 13 inch deep. Does that make a difference? Do you need a really strong person in order to do this?
I've read about people cutting up a tub, but then I was afraid of sparks.

Is the tub cast iron or something else?
