We have carpet on our wooden steps inside our home. I want to take the carpet out but steps are made of rough wood. What type of wood should I buy to cover them or are there alternatives to this?

You can remove the treads and replace them with 5/4 pine bull nose or oak (more expensive). Depending on what your risers look like, you may can get by by refinishing them.
