Hello,
Wondering if any of the experts out there can give a few tips for replacing logs with fireglass.

We currently have a new (vented through roof) propane gas fireplace with the fake logs. I am wanting to replace with the new product fireglass specifically made to replace the logs.

Any tips to be aware of when we do this? The company we bought them from advised to have a pro to do this but said that DIY'ers with a bit of knowledge could do this as well.

Husband is a contractor but has never worked with this product - Any help from the pros would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Marcia

Without more information on your existing fireplace to would be very hard to advise you on this subject. Gas fireplaces are one thing that aren't really for the DIYer. You may be able to get it right, but if you don't, you could blow up your neighborhood or kill family members.

Thanks logdoc-Rob for responding.

I was hoping you would say - sure you can do it but be careful.
I do not really live in a neighborhood - have acreage of Christmas Trees but would prefer not to blow them or myself up.

I will try to describe my fireplace to you best I can.
It is a Majestic top vent 36LDVT the other is same only the larger 43LDVT model that I had hoped to also use the fireglass.

They have logs that require certain placement in the box. If I recall was illustrated in my installation guide when we first put them in. Then the fluffy ember material that goes on top of the burner shelf. What I do know is when we installed it it required certain placement of all those materials. So my thinking was to try to fill the replacement material in the same order so as to not block anything that would cause combustion. The guide had also stated the logs could be replaced with lava rocks, etc.

My hope is to be able to put the fireglass in both unless you strongly advise against it.

Update:

Got in touch with the manufacturer and as they stated replacement was easy and safe "if we followed the proper steps."
Husband is a contractor and so it was evident to him but I needed to be re-assured. We followed all the steps and are very pleased.

Fired it up yesterday through last evening. As we had been told it was much more efficient (warm) and looks great.

I didn't get a similar response from the folks at majestic as Marcia did....they replied;
It was never approved for the glass, only the logs, sorry.

I have a majestic natural gas vented fireplace model #36BDVRRN. I would
like to replace the logs with fireglass. What information does anyone have to help me
along in this endeavor?

You CANNOT alter this direct vent gas fireplace in any way. It alters the warranty and is VERY unsafe. At minimum you will expose your family to carbon monoxide and soot up your home, you may burn down your house and die.

Don't do it, period.
