I have had a brinks home security system for the last three years. I cancelled the active monitoring but was hoping to keep the beep when a door or window is opened. It seems that when I dropped my monitoring that they locked the entire system. Is there a way to turn on the beep when a door or window is opened? I really do not want the active monitoring?
Thanks,
Kirk

If Brinks has already disabled the system, then it's a paperweight. Replace the keypad(s) and control with something non-proprietary.

Read through the archived posts, it's frequent topic.

What do you suggest (i.e., is there a company or brand that sells these)? Where might I look for something like this (Home Depot?)
Thanks very much for your help.

There are innumerable online vendors that sell security hardware to the DIY market. You will not find this stuff at a home center.

Any of the major brands: Honeywell/Ademco, GE/Concord, GE/Networx, DSC, etc will work just fine. Some are considered more difficult to configure than others.

A lot of people find the GE/Concord series to be pretty DIY friendly.

you can still turn it on. if you got the led keypad press OPTIONS-DOOR CHIME then enter your code. if you have an lcd keypad press options untill you see door chime and then enter your code.

I have a Brinks security system that came with our house, and about 11:49pm the systems comes on with a beeping at each key pad. I think this is to remind us that the security check phone call is not able to call out to Brinks. We do not have a home phone and do not have or need monitoring.

Is there a simple way to turn this off? I would like to use the system for the door chimes (in and out door open) and the local alarm horns in case a break in.

If I need to replace the panel where and how?

As I wrote above, Brinks hardware is not a DIY project, you either work with Brinks, or you start over with a new control and keypad(s).

Read over the various archived posts to get a feel for which systems have what features and issues for DIY installation.
