Hi Gang,
This DW doesn't seem to wash as well now. I find black oily spots on the dishes. The spots mainly are on plastic items. I thought the rubber boot that sits atop the lower wash arm was deteriating but that has been cleaned. This may not be oil but it smears like thick grease. Help!

A week ago I found heavy crud inside the vent. After cleaning, the problem improved. I was still seeing spots on the dishes. I found cleaning instructions, at Whirlpool, for the bottom of the door. That also helped. Still seeing some spots. I tested the heater and found it OK. I suspected a detergent problem as this started about the same time that we switched detergent. Again, some improvement was seen. I took a mirror and looked at the bottom of the door. What I found was heavy crud and grease. I should have used the mirror first. Degreaser and bleach did the trick but it was necessary to dissemble the door. This should be done more often than the 10-year interval I used.

The detergent, blue/white tablets with a red dot, may have been a factor. I'll stay with powder from now on.
