Wondering if someone can help ... I have the Maytag stacked washer and dryer, sg1000. I had to replace a cracked damper and worn out pads. I've never the washer torn down this far ... but all is now ok except the brake is no longer functioning and the wash spin dry cycle now takes about a minute to coast to a stop.
I've noticed that in the washer agitate cycle that the transmission very slowly works it's way clockwise (may or may not be normal). When the spin dry cycle is finally complete and machine had shut off, I manually spun the wash tub ... it spins freely in either direction. My thinking is that I may have attached the drive lug incorrectly. Would anyone have any idea's on what I could look for? The service manual is a little vague ... Thanks !!

Here is a link to your machine

Part 10 is the part that is giving you trouble I think. The part is updated. If your's has a couple of washers and a roller bearing in it you have the old style. It should work if you put grease in there. Under the cap take off e clip and take off pulley there is a white plastic peice with aramp on it, Make sure there is a lot of greaese on the ramp. When everything is assambled right then you turn pulley 1 way thansmission turns turn the other way and transmission lifts off brake and than the tub spins. Hope this helps. Let os know how repairs went. I never use the old type to reinstall it so I do not remember how the bearing goes in there.

Thanks Pugsl ... the problem was that the bearing that sits atop of the pulley was upside down. The cupped side needs to sit atop the pulley. I'm back to 100% again ... thanks very much for your reply !!
