I have recently purchased a red brick 100+ year old home north of Toronto. The front porch is in need of repair or replacement. It spans the front of the house and has 5 brick footings with wooden posts supporting the roof. The brick footings have pulled away from the house and the rest of the porch is sagging wood. Is there any way to repair the brick pillars and just replace the wood, or will I have to replace everything. This is my first home of this age, and I dont know what im getting into. Im sure I will be using this site alot over the next year! Any advice at all would be a great help!

Generally bricks are just a veneer, meaning they don't hold weight. It appears the footings and/or the columns to which the brick are attached (cement block, etc.) are failing. Not seeing what you see, it would be difficult to advise you to destroy it. Could you post a few pictures on a site such as photobucket.com and copy/paste the HTML code to a reply post?
