I need advice on this. My mom has at long last decided to get away from wood. She has a vented FP. The vents are inside the room, I think. Should they be closed? I'll likely remove the doors so they don't get closed accidently. I haven't looked at the damper but it should close even after many years, I hope. She has a tall vaulted ceiling and ceiling fan. 34,000btu should heat as well as wood.

There is a large log lighter so I don't expect a problem with gas supply. I'll also do a BTU survey. 2psi systems are popular here so I expect a regulator just for the FP. The pressure will need testing as well. Any suggestions for CO alarms? Any other advice?

Never felt comfortable with the ventless systems. Potential risks not worth grabbing those last few BTUs.

Just my opinion for what its worth.
