I have an old arc welder and it has been working fine until today I am making a table and on welding the last leg the ground started sparking whenever I start the weld.Can someone tell me why it is doing this?

It sounds like it isn't grounded well. Check both the wire lead on the ground clamp and the metal where you are attaching the clamp - the metal might not be clean enough.
