Dunno if I've posted in correct area; seemed appropriate; will correct and repost if so advised.
My barn is metal with steel pipe supports. Floor currently dirt; can't $$ concrete. It is dog-walk style; I intend to keep middle drive-thru in crushed rock.
Want to "deck" the two side areas: 10' x 30'. I can fly the hair off most helicopters but I've not hung the first joist in my life. I see cinder blocks at lumber yards creased to fit 2 by and 4 by lumber. Can anyone tell me where to find general plans on how to lay this out? Hardware? Processes to get right support? I'd like to use treated 2 x lumber as the decking, mostly for strength. Prolly a wordy post. Sorry.

Ask at the place where you saw the blocks. The manufacturer will have recomendations on their use. Usually the person who does deck design at the store has all that info. Just tell them the size of deck you want and they can figure what you need and give you a print out of it. That is what you are in a way doing building decks on either side of the barn. You could even break down the size (maybe do 1/2 of 1 side now and other 1/2 later) to make the cost spread out over time. The deck design guy or gal is more than happy to help, just tell them what you want to do.

Thank you, Ben. Solid advice; and I was told that some of the self-help books available at libraries and self-help lumber yards like the "big ones" are equally valuable and informative. Thank you, again.
