I have a masonry fireplace with a Blue Flame Log Lighter that I want to replace with gas logs. The log lighter has two parts. One is the long burner with the holes. the other part is between the burner and the pipe coming from the wall. It is a octagonal shaped item with a hole in the top that has a sliding cap (looks like a place you would light a pilot?). The part says Blue Flame Log Lighter on one side and Cantebury Enterprises on the other and has a 1/2inch thread on the wall side and a 3/8inch thread on the burner side. My question is do I need this part or can I remove it and connect the gas tubing from the gas logs directly to pipe coming into the fireplace.? Thank you for your help.
