Has anyone used a Tool Shop Lathe? I'm thinking of buying one. I'll hardly use it . I build high end cabinets and never use cheep tools but it's a Man thing and I don't have one. And I think it's a Man Law...LOL

Is Tool Shop Lathe the brand name? I couldn't find anything on it under that name. Or are you generically asking if we use lathes. Shop Smith makes a good lathe, and it combines with other tooling to make it more versatile. Check the length of the lathe to make sure it will perform the jobs you may be taking on.

Tool "room" is a common name for a small metal working lathe, 9 or 10 inch swing. Is that what you want? Or is it a wood working lathe you're after? Different animals.

"Tool Shop" is the brand name. Sold at Menards for around $125.00.
I did buy one (which I'm returning today).
I followed the setup instruction to the letter.
When I mounted a piece of wood and turned the tail spindle to tighten it up the bottom frame bent upwards. I could not tighten the tool rest to keep it from moving (BIG SAFETY ISSUE).

Have you looked for a used lathe? That may be your best bet to get a quality tool for your price. try Craigs list or e-bay.

Looked for a quality Lathe... STICKER SHOCK!!...lol
I can't see paying that much for a tool that a toy to me. So I made some:) modifications to this one. First I drilled holes on the base plate every 6" and screwed it down then I welded the tool rest so it can"t move but giving me all the angles I need to make bowls etc.. and "IT WORKS GREAT!!":) :)

As a matter of fact, I just took a pen turning class at my local woodworking store last night and they highly recommend the Rikon mini lathe which they just happen to have on sale for only $299. The use Jet in their classes, but he said this one is comparable (if not better in some respects) and much cheaper in price, but not quality.
