With the help of this forum, I've been able to add a new Keypad and window sensors AND program them. Everything is working fine. Thanks. Now, I have ordered a 5809 Heat Sensor and I have a few questions.

1. What should I be thinking about as far as the location is concerned?
2. From the Ademco manual, it would appear that the 5809 would be added to the system just like a 5815 door/window sensor except that I would use Zone Type 09 rather than 03. Am I right about that?
3. The manual also says that devices with Zone Type 09 are always active and cannot be bypassed. Does that mean that it would be active even if the system is not armed? Seems like that would be what you would want but it doesn't actually say that.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Yup, fire zones are 24-7.

Heat detectors aren't terribly fussy about location, they have a 30-40 foot sensing radius.

It's a rate of rise detector, so you don't want to put it in a location where the temperature will go up 15 degrees in a minute or less (like in front of the hot air blast from a refrigerator heat exchanger).

Great. Thanks Ron.
Am I right about programming it just like a door/window sensor except that it is a Zone Type 09?

Yes, the basic programming steps are the same.
