I have the GE DesignLine Recessed sensors (RF-1510-01-1) and their size is great (small). With my double hung windows, I can't put them on the side (the sides of the window frame are plastic and grooved, for where the window can hinge out for cleaning).
So, do I put the sensor on the top or the bottom sill? Would the bottom have concerns with water getting into the sensor (in that case I'd put the sensor in the window and the magnet in the sill)? I'm worried if I put the senors on the top part of the window, then someone could open the bottom window and not trigger the sensor.
thanks

You can put them on the top and the bottom as long as you
drill the proper hole size, you won't have to worry about
water.

Also, check your the specs and warranty on your windows. Many of these vinyl windows have a stipulation that drilling the frame for something like alarm contacts voids the warranty.
Otherwise, you are good to go.

thanks, would you put one in the top AND the bottom or just one of them?
if only one, then i'm assuming the best location would be on the bottom window?

You should put one contact on each sash, but if I had to
chose one, I would chose the bottom one. It's easier to climb
through the window if the bottom window is opened.
