Recently the power went out in my apartment and ever since then the smoke alarm has been making a noise that sounds like crickets outside the window. I looked at the detector and it says something about how the alarm won't work if power is interrupted to it. When the power is turned off at the fuse box the noise stops, but when power is returned the alarm chirps loudly once and then make the quieter cricket noise. Is there any way I can reset the alarm or make it stop making noises?

Try changing the 9 volt backup battery in the detector head (it may also need a good cleaning with some canned air or a vacuum).

So I took it down and opened it, there's no battery whatsoever. This is kind of worrysome that the complex put a wired smoke detector without a backup battery in here...Anyway I'm assuming that I can't reset it myself so I'll just see about the management getting me a new one.
