To all,
Trying to get my lawn tractor going after a season of sitting in the yard. I got a new battery and ran into a little problem. I'm leery of doing anything to a battery that may result in explosion:madhell: , or worse - me having to buy a new battery. The battery I have says it needs a .5 amp trickle charging rate, while the charger I have says it's a 1 amp charger. Can I charge at a higher rate? The store associate said it'd be OK, but I'm not convinced. Need some steering in the right direction. It is a battery that requires manual filling.

Go ahead and use the 1 amp. That is a very low rate of charge and won't hurt a thing as long as you don't leave it on charge for days. The battery may work ok after filling without charging it at all.
