Hi all,
We are doing a long overdue kitchen remodel. we are going with Ikea cabinets (ours is offering 20% off total bill with appliances right now!) in medium brown, and are doing a granite countertop (offwhite, with gold, carmel, and some black specks...I should try to find a pic online that comes close) My wife and i are having a tough time deciding on floor tile and wall color.
We both like 24" x 12" tiles, but i like lighter whitish or even light tan color, and she likes darker brown. I'm worried we will be creating a dark cave if we go with darker tiles. thoughts? ideas for wall colors?
Thanks!
Jim

Hi jpoder,
The Ikea dark brown is not too dark, however, IMO dark tiles will make the kitchen a dark place.
Keep in mind that light colors reflect the light and dark colors absorb the light, so check carefully the light impact in your kitchen. Also, the shape of the kitchen is very important. If you have a narrow and long kitchen, you'll need light colors in order to "open"it
Is always a good idea a 3D visualization of the cabinets + counter + tiles--> there are many inexpensive or free 3D programs (Google Sketchup is free), or you can go to HD, Lowes, etc --> they use 3D kitchen design programs and they can help you with the 3D visualization. Some tile manufacturers have online visualization tools (check Daltile, for example http://www.daltileproducts.com/)
If you wish to post a picture, I will be glad to provide additional suggestions

hmm, pmgca has a good point, the dark tiles can effect the lightness of your kitchen and will make it a dark one ..... totally agree with pmgca.
