ok im not a appliance person by NO means give me a car to repair im golden but this one is driving me bonkers and cant figure it out. (not that i know what the hell im looking for)

load dishwasher fill soap ect ect all fine (least wife aint complaining about that part)
turn it on and it has a long wash or short wash. long wash cycles no water fills in it at all. short wash will fill and go thru that cycle fine but as soon as it triggers the second soap cup to open up NO WATER COMES IN IT AT ALL!!!! i know its supposed to cause the wash motor is running and when we do said below it does the full wash cycle. we have been bypassing it by going around the cycles fully back to the short wash to fill the tub and then turn it off (so it doesnt drain when you turn past it) and advance it to the soap open part again and then it runs thru ALL the cycles normal after that. WHAT the hell is wrong with it ????? is it the timer is it the fill silinoid. if its the timer what do i need to know about my washer before i try to order a replacement from the local appliance repair shop ??? thanks in advance for some answers

In order to diagnose it properly you would need to have and know how to read the timing chart, short of that it's probably the timer you've proven the fill valve works when there's power to it. The timer applies power to the fill valve at various intervals. If the timer contact is caput at that interval no power to the fill valve.

well we went in to get a timer for it and they quoted 200 bucks for it so im gonna have to just replace the whole machine its not worth fixing
