I have a 14 year old Craftsmen basic mower with an Eager1 engine that has performed as well as any engine I've ever had, car or mower. My problem is the mower itself has started to rust through. What can i do to save this mower? Or save this engine for another mower.

In my area we have freecycle, reuseit and craig's list where you can post that you need something and a lot of times someone has just what you need and are wanting to get rid of it, it is all free. Maybe you have something like that where you are and can get a mower with a good deck and bad engine. Just a thought. Have a good one. Geo

That will work if the only thing that you are trying to do is prevent grass or debris from coming through the opening, but will not help any with the structural integrity of the mower deck.
A good used deck to mount your engine too would be your best bet, I think geo's idea has great merit. I would give that a try.

I personally would weld it in place--it felt that he probably
does not have a welder.
On my riding mower--I wire brush inside of deck & repaint it every 2 years--it will outlast the engine.................
