Sorry if I sound like an idiot.. I am trying to figure out how to remotely control outside lights on my garage. It seems like it is possible to control these lights from my car or from the house utilizing wireless technology but I'm not sure how this works? My question is what is the easiest, most trouble-free system on the market? I know Lutron,Smarthome, etc... have systems. I'm not looking to automate my entire house, just a few light circuits. Any good ideas?

X-10 or a derivative such as Insteon is probably your best bet. You change the switch for these lamps and also need an RF controller. How hard and how expensive depends on how many lights, how many switches and how they are currently wired.
