I have a Kenmore side by side refigerrator; the compressor does not work.
I am getting power to the compressor relay, but compressor does not work; how do I test to see which is broken, the compressor or the relay?

Appreciate the help.

On your compressor, you have a current limit switch, and a start relay. The most common problem is the start relay, the one that plugs on, brown or black in color. Unplug the frig first, unplug the relay, and shake it hard, if it sounds like there is sand or small rocks inside, it is bad. Does the compressor try to start, and clicks and won't start, or does it make any noise at all?

Is the relay about 3/4 inch square solid plastic, or does it have a copper wire coil wound around the bottom of it? If it is the 3/4 square solid plastic looking one, and it sounds like there is something loose inside, it is bad. If it is the wire coil type, that is normal.

Thank you for your help, you were on the money.

I changed the relay and now it works like a charm. I had a bit of difficulty finding the part, but finally found the part.

Again, I realy appreciate for you to take the time and help me out, I also scored some points with wife.

Now I have another refig that is broken which will try to fix it later.
