Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - elec. mower

My electric mower is whirling at about half its normal rpm, and
no longer stops immediately after switching it off.
It winds down gradually to a stop, which to me is no bother, but are the two problems related to each other?
The brushes look fine. I'm at a loss on how to do a continuity check on the thing w/o a diagram.

It's a 19" 120V corded "Lawn Chief" (True Value)
The ID badge says Gen Equip. Corp, mod. # EA919B(8?)
Seems I heard these were made by MTD.
Anyway, with the 'hood' open, it very much resembles the orange
B&D; same switch on the handle, wiring, and all....
I had to jury-rig a lever on it to activate the on/off switch as parts are no longer available.

You can buy a gas push mower at big box ( about $140 )
Propably cost that much to repair your unit.

It your mower is old enough that parts are not available then I'd replace it.It is possible it's an MTD but I'm not sure with an electric.MTD and Murray produce just about all private label mowers sold in this country (gas).The fact that it looks like a B&D could mean the same producer of theirs built yours.


gas mowers are often available for as low as 99$ at discount stores and big boxes.these are basic mowers that have been produced at certain lowered standards to meet price points (even then it's being sold at cost as a drawing point).

If you still want an electric,recent versions are much improved and are not excessive in price.Selection has expanded to several brands like Toro etc.
