Help.

I ordered a motion drive belt from Sears.com. Took the deck off as I've done before and when I tried to put the V belt on it seems about 4 inches too short. I ordered the V belt part # from the manual.

Am I doing something wrong?

It's hard to tell without knowing anything about what you have.

What model mower is it, and what belt number do you have, for starters?

Are you changing the belt with the brake pedal locked down? If not, that's your problem.

Model number is 917.275760. part number is 178138. Craftsman.

I thought I put the brake pedal in lockdown. I will doublecheck.
