Hi: My two year old Amana fridge is making a faint low frequency 'whomp", 'whomp" sound that seems to be every second that it is cycling. When you stand right near the fridge, you can't hear the noise, but if you go to another room, away from the fridge, you can hear it! I first thought it was my new HE furnace d.c. motor, but have narrowed the noise down to this fridge. The fridge sits on a hardwood (Pergo) floor, so maybe this amplifies the sound somewhat, but any way to fix this annoying sound, or just live with it?! Sounds like a train idling far away! Thanks, Huck

Maybe you could park that fridge up on lets say some piece of insulation board of some sort, and maybe capped off with a sheet of plywood. The insulation board may act as a damper. Low pile kitchen-type carpet may also work, underneath.

Funny you should bring up this subject because I got called to a college girl's rental that has same kind of flooring and they swear that when they are in the living room, they hear an annoying sound from the fridge - except of course if is always much quieter when I show up.
