Heat Pumps and Electric Heating - cost of carrier ,trane,american standard heat pump/air handler

Can anyone give me some info on the prices I mite be looking at on some of these unitswith installation?

carrier infinity series model 25HNA6 16 seer heat pump and air handler with Infinity Air Purifier ,Infinity control thermostat and a Performance Energy Recovery Ventilator.

townhouse is 2 story, 1500sqft , middle unit ,well insulated(homes on both sides of me) 8 small enegy star windows.

I am just looking for a ballpark figure since I just started saving funds and would like to get an idea what kind of money I am looking at before getting an in person estimate.

what make/manufacturer could I get thats in the 8 k range including air handler,heat pump, air cleaner/purifier and ventilator?


I have a child with bad allergies and I would really like to get him the purifier and ventilator.

Anyone know how much extra the air cleaner and ventilator add to the bill,$ 2000 or so?
If so maybe I could get them awhile after I get the pump and handler.

What else would you need to know that I have not listed?
I curently have a 22 yr old 7 seer carrier that heat and cools the house just fine , but it eats up way to much electric.

Since your son has allergies stay away from the clean effects. It produces Ozone which is a pollutant. Go with a Media Filter it will be a better filter. We need to no what ton unit you have now.

what area of country do you live?

what is electric rate?

what size is your existing HP condenser?

I am not a fan of two stg condensers because for most homeowners they are overkill. Of course there are special applications such as zoning.

you have a return upstairs and downstairs?

Trane/AmStd two stg HPs have poor heating BTUs for their rated size.

these are my specs for HPs

15 SEER,12+ EER, 9 HFPF
matching var speed blower
R-410a refrigerant
full BTUs both cooling and heating for rated size
electronic demand defrost preferred
scroll compressor preferred
stat or control that has "dehumidify on demand" feature like the Infinity or HW VisionPro IAQ
staged backup heat strips

my personal favorites are Carrier Performance 15(Bryant Preferred 15) and Trane XL15i HP(AmStd Heritage 15)

Depending on area/market/competition, I would guesstimate 7-8.5K. of course the two stg would be more expensive.shop around. I would not have the Clean Effects due to cleaning/maintenance schedule. Go for 4-5" pleated media filter cabinet MERV 10 that has to be changed out once a year.
