I have a kwikset door with no locks on an outside door. The spring that pulls/pushes the "latch" into the doorjamb has broken so that the latch is staying inside the doorjamb. I can't get a knife or credit card in to push the latch out to open the door. The latch is a one piece mechanism that is screwed into the door on the outside with two screws, which I can't access with the door closed and no obvious ways from the inside to remove.... any ideas?

Knock the hinge pins out and remove the door. :coffee:

That is definitely one alternative and probably one of the easier sure thing methods.
Of course, if you remove the inside handle, it should reveal access to the mechanism. You can then manipulate the mechanism back quite easily, even if the spring is broken.
