Hi

I need some privacy and darkening for my all glass extension to the back of my house. I saved custom, lined, pinch pleated draperies from a previous home. I need about 34 feet wide of coverage and the PP drapes are about 25 foot (at the top with the pleats). To make them more modern and wider, I was thinking of taking the pleats out and putting grommets in them. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. I need to redo them soon or donate them and start over. Thanks

Hi. The only thing is you may have the stitching lines and creases showing after years of being in there, but if that doesn't matter to you then sure, you can do it, but it will be a bit of work. They need to be 2x the width of the rod, so you'll have to cut them down and rehem one side. You'll need about 8 grommets for every width of fabric and you need to use an even number of grommets. The size of the grommets depends on the size of the rod. Will they be long enough? The top will be above the rod rather than below it.
I'm not sure what your question is or what you need to know, so if you could be more specific, I could help better.

It does seem like a lot of work...and I am so tired of lots of work!:( I have three sliding doors...two five footers and one nine footer to cover. The glass solid doors that is also part of the new outside wall that I am recycling have the OCL blinds in the glass. I would much rather be able to use that same concept on the sliders, but there isn't any made for them that I can find. So I am trying to figure out if the drapes I already have may be the solution. They are long enough and I am thinking wide enough. I have 8 drapery panels. Two are four feet at the top and then there are six more that at about 2'10" at the top (where the pleats are). I measured one of the narrower ones at the bottom and it was 5' 8". The measurement I need to fill is 34 feet in width. The total of my drapes are about 25 feet in width at the top. Are you saying I will need 34 X 2 in width for the new drapes? 68 feet worth? I would estimate what I have now is about 55-60 feet in total, so it would not be full enough? I soo appreciate your help and this forum. it's the bomb!

Is the 25ft with the pleats in? This is what I thought you meant, so that when you let the pleats out, you would have more than enough fabric. If not, then you could just leave them as flat panels, hanging on rings.
Yes, you would need twice the width for grommets so you have the nice roll effect and also you need so much space between the grommets. 8 ft. would be too much of a shortage.

Apologies for maybe making this more difficult to understand than what it is. I am not sure what "flat panels" are exactly, except that they are flat. So I would have enough fabric if my drapes are 25 feet wide at the pleat for them, but if I am 8 foot short, I cannot do the grommets?

Here is another factor to consider...the space is not continuous...it is two 7'5'' sides and then a 9' span and two 4 1/2 foot spans on either side of a fireplace for the front.

How would you suggest I apply the grommets if I am able to use the drapes that way? Thank you soo much for your help.

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I'm still not clear on whether they're 25 ft. with the pleats in or if they're 25 ft. after the pleats are taken out. If it's after they're taken out, then no, it won't be enough for grommets. You really need twice the width. You might get away with 8" short, but 8 feet is too much, I'm afraid.
Flat is simply with no kind of heading at the top, just plain.
How you apply the grommets depends on the kind you bought. Do you have the large drapery grommets? The plastic ones just snap together so you don't need any special tools or machines, but you would need to cut out the holes first. You can buy a template for this, so you cut the right size and have the correct spacing.
