Gas and Oil Home Heating Furnaces - Coleman Evcon Won't Ignite

Hey all,
I am working on a 88' model Oil burning Coleman Evcon with a Wayne ignitor. The unit has not been used for about 4 years. I cleaned and replaced most of the supply lines from the tank and bled the lines until clear. Pump seems to work fine and when the unit is turned on I hear what I think is the ignitor working, however, I am a novice at this. This is the first time trying to troubleshoot a furnace like this. I opened up the head on the ignitor and it "looked" ok and in relatively excellent shape. Any suggestions before I call in the professionals?

Do you get fuel out of the pump bleeder port? Since it's been 4 years, the nozzle should be replaced. Oil can break down & clog a nozzle in that amount of time.

Yes I bled the system out through the bleeder port with very good pressure. I am assuming the nozzle you are speaking of is the fuel nozzle in the burner?

Yes, it is in the air tube of the burner. If you are hesitant to dig into the burner, you can remove the small (3/16") coppper line which connects to the burner body, point it into a bottle or other container, start the burner, & see if you get a good flow out of it. If not, the pressure side of the pump is bad requiring replacement of the pump.

Looked at taking that thing apart for quite awhile..... then dove in. It wasn't that bad at all. It turned out that the nozzle was the problem and after re bleeding the line a couple of times (wouldn't continuously burn) and double checking everything, it finally stayed fired. Worked like a charm! Thanks again Grady!

If the nozzle was the problem though, did you change it? Just curious. You did not say.
