What size(s) beam I need for a 18' spam for a back porch? I am using Douglas Fir #2. Will a 2= 2x10s or 2= 2x12s work?
I appreciate the input

How much do you, your wife and dog weight?
How big an area and what are the joist spans?

Existing concrete slab with already footers. Existing porch roof too deteriorate, will replace but I would like to eliminate the center post for viewing purposes. 8" rafters 24" on center 20' long by 11' deep. I can leave 1' of overhang on each corner, then I have 18" span, I wouldn't like steel beam and I thought, maybe using 2= 2x12x20s or maybe something else as 2= 4x8x20s.
