The Satellite wiring in my house comes from a distribution box under the house. It is powered through one of the RG6 cables into the back bedroom. All other connection in the house work if I connect the power supply to that cable, but I can't seem to get that connection to work. There are two cables there. I assumed that I needed a splitter on one cable to allow the power supply to get to the distribution box and to the receiver, but that doesn't work. I get the message that one of the antenna cables does not work. Where am I missing the solution?

Usually a receiver will power the LNB's on a dish.
There are some multi-switches that connect all lines. An example would be a 2X4 multi-switch. Two lines go to a dual LNB, the other four connect to other areas of the house where you can connect up a receiver. What this does is set one LNB to horizontal, and the other LNB to vertical. This way, you can watch one station on one receiver and a different station on another receiver.
Take a look at your distribution box and see if that is how it is wired. If this isn't the case, then trace the wires from the dish (LNB) to your distribution box and go from there. If all looks ok, then check your connectors and the lines for bad grounds and breaks.

Satellite systems are different from basic cable in that you can't just add generic splitters in order to add receivers. As rbwest said, there is probably a multiswitch inside the distro box. If it has only four ports and all are in use, you'll have replace it with a switch with more ports to accommodate the new receiver, or remove one of the existing lines to add the new one.
