I am building a deck across a 2 foot deep 'pit' originally built around tree in my backyard. I bought concrete piers with 2x6 PT joists running the width of the pit. My question is, what is the maximum spacing between the joists? I currently have these spaced about 34-36" apart. Is this too much?

Additional info: the piers support the joists about every 3-4'. Let me know if anyone has any insight. I just want to make sure the decking will not give in between the joists.

Thanks!

If using 2x decking (typically 2x6), then max width is 24".
If using 5/4 decking (typical decking material), then max width is 16".
