Hi Everybody...

Not so much a DIY question as a "what's fair" question. I'm looking to have my gas fireplace and 20+ year old furnace serviced, but I've no idea what a fair price is. So....what would you say is a fair price for that kind of work?

Thanks.

One twenty to one seventy! but price will be different every where.

Yeah, this is a good estimate. I pay $129 for mine...

Thanks for the reply's. We're debating servicing the old beast and trying to milk another winter out of it, or spending money we really don't have to replace it with a new furnace.

On another note....what about servicing a gas fireplace. Would any of you pay to have it done? I looked up direct energy's servicing package, here's what they do:

---------------
When servicing your fireplace, our qualified service technicians will:

* Check fan operation
* Clean pilot and burners
* Check gas pilot safety system
* Check for proper ignition and combustion
* Visually check venting and chimney draw, where accessible
* Check for adequate combustion and ventilation air
* Paint firebox, as required
* Clean glass with recommended glass cleaner and inspect gasket
* Clean equipment exterior
* Leave completed checklist with homeowner

Fireplace Maintenance is only $129.95* plus GST.
---------------------

That doesn't sound very worth the $130 unless there's more to this than I can see. Really, it seems like a bunch of "checking" for a lot of money.

So...what'd'y'all think? Worth it?

A good HVAC company would check both for about that much.
