I recently stained my deck with a tinted waterproofing stain. One side of the deck looks lighter than the other. Can I apply another coat or will this help?

Can I go back over the entire thing with a solid stain or would this side still look lighter?

I followed the directions and I do not understand why this looks this way. It looks like I applied it thicker on one side but I sis it the same.

Not sure what went wrong here.

Welcome to the forums!

Some stains require frequent stirring/mixing or the pigments may fall to the bottom. That might be the cause. It is also possible that one section had wood that was more porous than the other. Light refraction can also appear 1 area to look different.

Another coat may help. Be sure to read the recoat instructins on the stain label. Some stains require recoating within a specfic time period for the stain to adhere well. Those types of stains need to be stripped off [or weathered] before recoating after the time period has elapsed.
