The house we are moving into has faux paint applications on most of the walls. We are really concerned on how to paint over the living room wall which is a yellow undercoat with a metalic gold glaze. It has a textured finish. What do we need to do to repaint these rooms.

I would prime with a bonding primer, then skim coat wtih drywall compound, sand, re-prime and paint.

If you're just worried about the new paint sticking just wash the walls and use a good bonding primer. If it's the texture that's bothering you then consider having a new texture put on by a contractor. Most wallboard contractors and quite a few painting contractors can shoot new texture on the walls.
