my ademco first alert model fa215 keypad is stuck in stay mode
when i type in my code, i get no response
the armed light is on
when i first power up it says D1 and stay in the lcd window
after startup the D1 goes away and it just says stay
this is very urgent as it is a very sensitive area in which i will have to sleep if the alarm is down
TYIA :)

If not monitored, you can try your duress code. Typically, it will be 2580+1. If it is monitored, make sure you have the system on test before you attempt this.

Could you have been arming and disarming using the _installer_ code?
If so, and someone accidentally keyed in the quick arm command (#3), you would get this effect, because the installer code cannot disarm the system if it is armed using any other code, command or device (like a keyfob).
Try using the power down then use the * + # to get into programming. Use the command #20 to verify your installer code. Then use the installer code to set a proper master code, or reset it (in the case that your Master code got changed somehow).
What model is the _system_? FA215 is the keypad model, and is used on multiple base systems, it is not the system.

try to power down the panel. ac and battery. then hook them back up run to the keypad and press and hold the * and # key untell the display reads 20 or installer code( depending on the type of keypad you have) if this comes up your in good shape, if not, well you might be in bad shape. if it does say 20 type the new master code, then type *99 to exit program. this will allow you to re-enter program with master code+800
