we bought the house with ademco alarm, but could not obtain the master code, so I was advised to power down the system and start programming from scratch, but I need the programming instructions, and I only have the user manual. any help?

Alarm model, please.
The 6128 keypad was used on a lot of system models, and they _all_ program differently.
Open the system box with the battery and look at what's on the diagram on the inside of the door.

thanks for the quick and easy instructions, now that i have the master code, and I believe I have to activate the various entries, like front door windows smoke alarms, in the manual it does not explain how it is done, I really appreciate if I can locate installation manual, or if there is an easier way, tks

Without the system model, we cannot give you more than generic advice.

I maybe wrong, but Ron or another pro will correct me.
All the zones, ie. doors, windows, etc should all be programmed in already.....no?
It will be hard to program zones using the 6128 since there's no alpha display.
Also, did you mean Vista 10SE?
The owners manual is not the programming manual.

Go here for the installer manual: http://www.ibsalbany.com/Burglar%20Alarms/INSTALLERS/VISTA10SEii.pdf
Don't try to monkey with your zone settings, you cannot easily do it with this keypad on this system.
You can extract your installer code and use the following keystrokes to set a new master code:
Installer Code + 8 + 2 + 4-digit Master Code
Don't try to use the installer code as a normal arm/disarm code!
