I contacted ADT directly and also an ADT authorized dealer. The ADT authorized dealer quoted me a very attractive price for the GE Concord 4 but I have to sign up for a 3-year monitoring agreement with ADT. However, he said he's responsible for the equipment malfunction during the first 90 days only. After that, ADT is responsible. Is this true? how do I confirm this before I sign up with him and ADT? Thanks!

This is correct...ADT monitors the account, and after 90 days they service you.

but each time a component malfunctions, ADT will charge me a fee, correct? does anyone have experience with this? What I would like is being able to replace the component (a contact, or a glass break detector) myself, then reprogram the system myself without ADT coming out to charge me an arm and a leg for the hardware and for the service.

Most dealers sell the extended service plan...if this was something that was included, then all you pay is their trip fee which I believe is $25. Technically, you are not allowed to service the alarm yourself, but I don't think they would know or even care.
