I have recently converted to cox cable for my telephone system and only tone dialing is allowed. My old Honeywell 1500e security system demands pulse dialing.
I am electronically inclined, so if a pulse to tone converter was available, I could probably figure out how to make it work with my system.
Does anyone know of a converter for this system or where I might get a converter that i could mod to work with this system.
Thanks in advance for any help.

:( I can't find a manual for this system. Check inside the metal can to see if you have an installer's manual. With the manual we should be able to determine what formats this thing can send. Other than that, it may be time for and upgrade.

Dont' have manual either, but I don't think tone dialing was even available 25 years ago so I doubt that it has both capability... but I will look more closely at the circuit boards for any switches that might affect the mode of dialing.

Format of communication is controlled in programming...you could add a cellular dialer and forgo the telephone all together. In my experience, when cable companies can't get alarm communication, they always claim that it needs tone. I have heard them use the excuse on a vista 20p communicating in CID. Translation: "I don't know why it won't work...call the alarm company.":madhell:

Isn't that wild, I was just looking at that very same url. They have a pulse to tone converter for $44.00
Simply run the output of the security system to the box and connect the output of the box to the telephone jack and off you go.
Course then I am not sure what signals it sends once connected like so many pulses for low battery, so many pulses for fire etc... or possibly a different tone for each one.
I thinik I will play with it and see what I can figure out..
This is a hot forum, while searching google for a pulse to tone converter for honeywell.. I found my very own post already in google... pretty fast indexing...
I knew wp blogs got indexed in 15 min but was not aware a forum got indexed that fast.. the boss must be pinging on each post to the forum.
There has got to be a ton of converters out there, i will look for converters vice looking in the forum... thanks for all the help I have recieved so far..

Sadly, the alarm will be dialing out in a specific format to a receiver that is looking for that paticular format. Changing it to tone through an adapter may transmit in tone, but I think the receiver won't recognize the signals.
Your best bet would be an upgrade or a cellular dialer. Call HSM, and ask if they can cover the upgrade. If they are concerned at all with attrition, then they will probally upgrade you for free, with a new contract of course ;)
